Hatched: National Graduate Show 2024 presents a dynamic selection of emerging artists recently graduated from art schools across Australia. Nominated by their teachers and selected by a panel of nationally acclaimed artists and curators, Hatched represents the diverse and compelling practices of the next generation of artistic voices.
As a cornerstone of PICA’s program, and the only national graduate exhibition of its kind, Hatched has presented the work of over 1,400 art school graduates from across Australia, with notable alumni including Archie Moore, Julie Gough and Ramesh Mario Nithyendren. Over its 30-plus-year history, Hatched has continued to provide a vital national platform for early-career artists.
The artists in Hatched push boundaries across all contemporary media, including installation, video, painting, textiles, sculpture, photography and various experimental forms. The exhibition provides them with a critical platform and a national audience as well as the opportunity to connect with peers from across Australia. In addition to the exhibition, PICA offers studio residencies to one interstate and one Perth-based Hatched artist every year.
2024 marks the fifteenth anniversary of the Dr Harold Schenberg Arts Awards, the largest prize pool for an emerging art prize in Australia. Dr Harold Schenberg Arts Award are made possible by funds bequeathed to The University of Western Australia by Dr Harold Schenberg.
