ABOUT THE EVENT

Black Diasporas Boorloo-Perth highlights the experiences of the African diaspora in Boorloo. Take a seat in the City Room and enjoy 10 short films and over 100 audio stories featuring over 150 local residents.

Join us for the launch of this digital installation, where Boorloo's African community share over 500 stories through captivating short films and audio stories.

Following the success of editions in Naarm (Melbourne), Tkaronto (Toronto), and Manhattan (NYC), this project celebrates the tradition of African oral storytelling. By hearing people tell their own stories, we uncover the rich diversity of Black life in Boorloo.

Explore our digital map and archive, showcasing stories from the anti-apartheid movement to everyday life, family joys, mental health challenges, and the impact of racial stereotyping. Covering suburbs from Fremantle to the Swan Valley, Joondalup to Mandurah, and beyond.

The joys of our success, joys of family life, playing as a child  the history of our suburbs.

Our voices telling our stories.
